For students who have been invited to participate in the Sydney West Orienteering event. Orienteering is a fun adventure race that combines running, geography, maths and problem solving. Using a special map, students navigate their way around a course set through bushland or parkland. Before the race, all students are put in age related groups and taken on a map walk with coaches from Orienteering NSW and will receive introductory coaching. The coach will explain map features, course directions and the use of timer. Our students have participated in introductory sessions at school. Please refer attached note for further details.

Stage Two students will visit two locations in Sydney. The Hyde Park Barracks where they will participate in a guided tour and interactive experiences about life during convict times. Along side The Australian Museum where students will look at how life has evolved and changed over time. Please refer attached note for further details.

These sessions form part of the PDHPE syllabus around Sexuality Education. These sessions will be taught by an experienced Interrelate Educator over three 90-minute sessions. Year 5’s will attend different sessions to our Year 6 students. A wide variety of creative activities and teaching methods are used during the program. These include: a take home workbook to encourage parental involvement; detailed visual presentations; class discussions; written and verbal questions; games and other activities. Please refer attached note for further details.

Blackheath Public School will be having their Athletics Carnival on Thursday 8th August, which is in week 3 of Term 3. It is expected that all students who are 8 or turning 8, and who are in Stage 2 and Stage 3, attend on the day. Please note, there will be a canteen available on the day.
