Terracycle at the school

Blackheath School has introduced a Terracycle system where items that would not ordinarily be recycled at the school are now.

Every classroom has a box labelled ‘USED TEXTAS, HIGHLIGHTERS and WHITEBOARD MARKERS’. Children and teachers are keen to fill these regularly with used plastic pens (with lids) from school and home. When we have a huge amount, these will be sent to Terracycle!

There are also 2 labelled boxes on the table near the canteen. One box is for collecting USED TOOTHPASTE TUBES and USED PLASTIC TOOTHBRUSHES (not the battery/electric toothbrushes). These items will be regularly taken to the dentist who will send them to Terracycle. The other box is labelled ‘USED BATTERIES’. These will be collected weekly and taken to the Blue Mountains Waste Management Centre.
